This Year - 2010 in Review Our 500 Lavender test plot flourished this summer. There will be a few re-plants in the Spring. Thanks to Sean Westerveld, of OMAFRA for his interest in From the Meadow, we have successfully put them to sleep for winter. Our plan was to grow 27 varieties of Lavender plants and then determine which are best suited for Ontario’s climate. Next, determine which plants are going to produce the best essential oils. We could become the essential oil producers like France has been noted for! We continued our research on Natural Sun Blocks using raw plant materials. Guelph University has been involved in this testing. We have been chosen for Skin Health, and Cosmetic preparations in Cosmeceutical components from Sea Buckthorn Fruits and their stabilization in processed products. The 2010 Turkey Operation was quite successful. We raised over 26,000 breeder turkey hens from day old poults to laying hens. All reports point to their enthusiasm and they are laying exceptionally well. In early November, 14,737 powder puffs (day old poults) arrived, only to start the adventures again. We will have the pleasure of their company until late Spring. As we are always trying new ways to meet our customers demands, this year we launched a number of new products. Two new soaps including the very popular Lemongrass-Cranberry, as well as the Calendula soap - used for revitizing with a great foaming lather and the pleasant scent of orange. Early in the year we launched two new creams. Awake the Feet, a wonderful treat for your feet that is loaded with plants that heal, and our renowned Best-seller The Secret, an age defying facial cream with a nice, gentle lift, which our customers have nicknamed our “Fountain of Youth in a Jar”. We also created two new lotions that currently are only available seasonally. Our Lovin`Lotion Sweet Rapture was a huge hit for Valentine`s Day, and great fun was had by our customers as they submit all kinds of zany names for our contest to name this new lotion. As soon as the blue violets are in bloom again this Spring, by popular demand we will again be creating our Spring Lotion, a lovely all-over body lotion containing blue violets and lavender. Most recently, we have launched a new line of Mineral Make-up - products that work with your skin, not against them. We have had amazing reviews from our customers about the new Mineral Make-up products. The Markets, Trade Shows and Events of 2010. The Women’s Day in February was the first of over 30 events we hosted, participated or supported this past year. Many thanks to the efforts of Heather Daniel for spearheading and successfully organizing these events, as well as her daily duties at the “Farmacy”. The Masonville Market, open Fridays from May until October had growing reviews this Summer. We are looking forward to the Summer of 2011. Saturdays continues to be our outing off the Farm. The Western Fair Market is open year round. We have met many new friends and acquaintances. This entire Market has blossomed over the years. The Royal Winter Fair was most exciting event we attended this year. It is noted to be one of the largest Agricultural Fairs in Canada . Grain Farmers of Ontario featured our products at the Royal as well as The International Plowing Match. Heather spent the entire 10 days at the Royal, at the From the Meadow booth. She created a great deal of excitement about our products. We were informed at the Royal that Anne Murray loves using our Polar Cream on her feet. Our touch with Stardom! In an effort to better serve our ever-growing customer base who are not local and able to visit us as often, we launched our new user friendly website complete with a secure online shopping cart. Now everyone can enjoy From the Meadow products delivered right to their door! We are also actively using Facebook & Twitter as tools to allow us to become even more connected with our customers and their needs. From the Meadow has been in business for 11 years and would never be a success without the ongoing support from our dedicated customers. From the Meadow grew with the initial intent of helping people with aches and pains, skin conditions and minimizing stress. We hope that we have met your needs and are very much looking forward to another exciting year at the Farmacy.
